Faith Community Nursing

Faith Community Nursing- Sacred Work!

In partnership with the Center for Faith & Health at Samford University, Alabama BNF schedules training for those interested in Faith Community Nursing. The Faith Community Nurse Preparation Class is guided by professionals trained at the International Parish Nurse Resource Center. It is an opportunity for RNs to earn CEU credits while preparing themselves to lead in a congregational health ministry in their own church.

The Faith Community Nurse is a connector to bring total wellness to the church congregation. The nurse helps the church reclaim the spiritual dimension of health and being known as a healing place. Through a health ministry the congregation has new tools to connect the broader community to total wellness - body - mind - spirit!

 Faith Community Nursing
  • Is a specialty practice of nursing.
  • Is a professional model of health ministry that focuses on whole person health promotion and disease prevention from a faith perspective.
  • Promotes total wellness in body, mind, and spirit.

A Faith Community Nurse
  • May use her/his skills and compassionate nature to help people in a church congregation or community navigate the health system.
  • Might lead a health fair, begin a blood pressure clinic in his/her church, or teach on a variety of health related subjects.
  • May be called a Minister of Health or a Congregational Nurse. Faith Community Nursing is noted as a specialty by the American Nursing Association.
